Glazed Ham and Pineapple Skewers

A while ago I was challenged to come up with some canned/packaged goods recipes.
A big reason why struggling families might rely on canned and packaged foods is that donations need to have a reasonable shelf life. To be honest, I didn't expect this challenge to be as difficult as it is and I certainly have a new respect for those who, for whatever reason, rely on long life products as their main food source.

It is difficult for someone (like me), who has a preference towards fresh food and the means to acquire it easily, to imagine a scenario where this would not be possible but sometimes life seems more like an outhouse than a box of chocolates and it’s comforting to know that there are services available to help provide food to your family should the need ever arise.

Glazed Ham and Pineapple Skewers

340g canned ham
440g can pineapple slices or pieces
1 ½ Tablespoons brown sugar
10 skewers

•Cut ham into 40 equal squares.
•Cut pineapple slices into 6 equal sections.
•Thread 4 pieces of ham and 5 pineapple pieces (alternating each one) onto each skewer.
•Combine ½ the pineapple juice from the can with the brown sugar and stir until dissolved.
•Coat each skewer with juice and cook on hot BBQ grill or under oven grill until sauce becomes sticky and browned.
